Magic City, Dark Days
10 May
/
8:00 pm

Led by bassist and composer Neil Charles (who brings the unique distinction of having actually performed with the Sun Ra Arkestra!), this project - released on the Jazz in Britain label - takes its searing inspiration from the essays of James Baldwin.

While Sun Ra looked to the stars for liberation, Dark Days delivers a dramatic, grounded, and deeply engaging take on contemporary music. Featuring a powerhouse trio, this performance serves as a vital sonic bridge between Baldwin’s mid-century insights and the modern landscape.

Featuring vocalist Cleveland Watkiss, drummer Mark Sanders and Charles himself.

Come down for a night of electronic-focused experimentation.

A heady brew of improv, noise and remix culture that showcases the depth and diversity of the left-field music scene in Birmingham and beyond.

It’s a slice of cosmic pie for all the family, washed down with a hot jug of granular gravy. All in one Pan.
